Cock Blocker
Looks like I'm going to be getting a new car.

If everything works out as planned Friday evening my mom, dad and I will head over to the Toyota dealership and buy me a brand new 2008 Toyota Yaris.

Mom's going because her name is on the title to my Subaru
Dad's going because he has to co-sign the loan paperwork
I'm buying this car myself

My money...my car...all mine

With the down payment money I'm borrowing from Grandpa, and the grand they're giving me for my Subaru, payments should be $200 a month over 75 months. (6 years, 3 months)

So I'm looking for a couple things from you folks out there:

Number one: I'm going to need a new vanity plate (new car, new plate) so suggestions for that.

And B: Suggestions on fiscal responsibility. I already know that if things start approaching struggledom I'm going to look for a second job. There's also the opportunity of selling my wrestling action figure collection on eBay. Also, I finish Hesser in December, meaning at the start of 2009 I should be in, or on my way to, a good job somewhere that might actually make me something.

I really, really think I can make this work, but I'm still quite nervous.

This will be the first big...BIG...thing I'll have purchased all on my own.

Wish me luck, give me advice...I'm somehow both excited and scared at the same time...

Fyi... maybe NH is different, but when I got my car I couldn't get vanity plates from he dealership. You might want to at least double check on it, if you haven't already, before getting your hopes up.

Suggestions... make your a budget and stick to it. Do your best to notice any issue in advance.

Good luck!

Well, no, you get vanity plates from the DMV, the dealer gives you your 20-day temp plates, then at the end of that you go to the DMV and register your new car and get what plates you want

Well cool for you then. Jersey does it like that too (or similar, at least), but in MA the dealership registers it for you and give you the plates. When I asked about it, I was told I could get the special ones (like supporting education, animals, the Sox, etc.), but not personalized. Bummer.

How many letters/numbers can it be?

Up to 7 numbers, letters, or symbols, the only symbols allowed are -, + and &

My BORT license plate only rocks if you know what it means. No one does. This is the typical conversation:

Person: I was going to ask you about your plate.
Me: Do you know anything about the Simpsons?
Person: No.
Me: Nevermind

Alternate conversation:

Person: I was going to ask you about your plate.
Me: Do you know anything about the Simpsons?
Person: Yes.
Me: It's a reference to when they went to Ichy and Strachy World.
Person: I don't remember that.

It seriously sucks. But now my nieces call me Uncle Bort. Cute.

...people don't get the BORT plate?

I TOTALLY get the BORT plate :)

Only thing that comes to mind for a plate is TLSTM for "The Legendary STM".

Seriously, let me know how the Yaris goes when you take the wheel. I've had my eye on a Yaris myself.

I test drove one last year when they first came out, but couldn't afford the payments cause my car was still on loan at that point.

Now my Subaru's paid off, and I'm borrowing the down payment from my grandpa, so the payments should be under 200 a month.

I loved it when I drove it, and I desperately need the improved gas mileage. My Subaru gets 26 MPG, which sucks horribly what with my twice-a-week 80-mile round trip to school, not to mention the drive to work and Emily's and wherever else. The Yaris' specs are 29 city, 35 highway, which will help a lot.

I'm excited

Yeah, I've yet to test drive one -- and yet I hear good things about the Yaris. Economical price, great mileage, me wantee.

Yeah, man, I've wanted one since they started advertising them.

Before that my dream car was the PT Cruiser :)
